NKF at the Expo!

Earlier this month, my mom, one of my sisters and I volunteered with the National Kidney Foundation at the NBC4 Health Expo!

The health expo is an annual event all about...well...health.  There are healthy food samples, healthy drink samples, exercise demonstrations, and even free screenings, which is what NKF was responsible for.

People who stopped by our bright orange booth were weighed, had their blood pressures taken, had their urine tested, and had the opportunity to speak with a dietician or a doctor.  This was all done so that people would become more aware of kidney disease, what causes it, and whether they are at risk.

Probably the best thing about these screenings is that they are FREE to all who come.  The coordinator of the event said that NKF screened 875 people for kidney disease at the expo! For FREE!  Crazy, right?! Crazy good.

My sissy Danny!

There's no cure for kidney disease, but with early detection and education on the risks, you can minimize the symptoms and slow its progression.

That's how I spent one of my Sundays.  How was your weekend?  Did you have MLK Day off?
